Overview
Side Arm Raises, also called the lateral raise, target the lateral head of the deltoid to build shoulder strength. They also work well as a dynamic warm-up. Add this movement at the start of your training session to help warm up the shoulder muscles. It is especially useful for injury prevention and for preparing your body before shoulder training. To make the exercise more challenging and strengthen your shoulders further, perform it with a dumbbell or resistance band.
How to do it
- 1
Stand with your arms at your sides.
- 2
Keep your back and arms straight.
- 3
Lift your arms out to the sides until they reach shoulder height.
- 4
Exhale as you raise your arms, and inhale as you lower them.
- 5
Return and repeat.
