Lateral Raise with Towel on Wall
Overview
How to do it
- 1
Starting Position
Stand with the arm holding the towel relaxed at your side. Keep your posture natural and your core tight.
- 2
Lift with Control
With a slight bend in your elbow, start the movement by raising your arm slowly out to the side until it reaches shoulder height. Move with control and purpose.
- 3
Shoulder Engagement
Use your lateral deltoid to drive the lift. Do not let momentum swing the arm upward.
- 4
Parallel Position
Raise your arm until it is parallel to the floor.
- 5
Hold and Feel
Pause for a moment at the top and feel the lateral deltoid contract. Keep your whole body steady.
- 6
Lower with Control
Bring your arm back down slowly to the starting position at your side. Keep tension on the towel as you lower.
- 7
Repetition
Finish the chosen number of reps on one side before moving to the other side. Prioritize clean form on every rep.
- 8
Breathing
Keep breathing normally through the movement, exhaling as you lift the arm and inhaling as you lower it.
Form tips & common mistakes
Keep steady tension on the towel for the full exercise.
Do not use momentum to raise the towel; let your shoulder muscles create the tension.
Tighten your core to support your body and avoid over-arching your back.
Do not force painful ranges of motion. Stop if you feel pain or discomfort.
Stay relaxed and keep your breathing under control.
