Neck stretches are meant to improve the strength, tone, and flexibility of the neck muscles. They also help the ligaments around the neck joints become more flexible and tolerate greater stress in the area.

If your head and shoulders move forward because of poor posture, certain muscles in the chest and neck may shorten and tighten over time. This can reinforce the poor posture that is contributing to neck pain. Neck stretching exercises can help release postural muscles and may reduce neck pain.
