Overview
Warrior 1 Pose, also called Virabhadrasana I, is a standing yoga posture that builds leg strength, stretches the hips and thighs, and helps improve balance and stability.
How to do it
- 1
Stand on your mat with your feet hip-width apart and your arms resting at your sides.
- 2
Turn your torso to the right. Bring your right foot to face forward, and keep your left foot at a 45-degree angle.
- 3
Bend your right knee until it stacks directly over your ankle. Keep your knee from passing your ankle, and keep your shin perpendicular to the floor.
- 4
Tighten your core, pull your belly button toward your spine, and keep your spine long.
- 5
Lift your arms overhead, with your palms facing each other or touching.
- 6
Let your shoulders stay relaxed and away from your ears.
- 7
Look up toward your hands or out toward the horizon.
- 8
Stay in the pose for several deep breaths, then switch sides and repeat.
