Triceps Extension Machine
Overview
You’ll often see the Triceps Extension Machine used in arm day sessions, push workouts, and full-body strength training plans.
How to do it
- 1
Adjust the Machine
- Choose a load that lets you move with control and keep your form intact.
- Set the seat so your upper arms rest comfortably on the pad and your elbows line up with the machine’s pivot point.
- 2
Setup and Positioning
- Sit tall with your back pressed firmly into the pad and your feet flat on the floor.
- Hold the handles in a neutral grip with your palms facing your body.
- Check that your elbows match the machine’s axis so the movement stays efficient.
- 3
Execution
- Drive the handles downward until your arms are fully extended and your triceps are contracting.
- Pause for one second at the bottom.
- Return slowly to the start, bending your elbows while controlling the weight.
- Continue for the target reps, keeping each rep smooth and controlled.
Form tips & common mistakes
Keep your elbows still for the full movement to emphasize the triceps.
Do not use momentum or swing your arms to move the weight.
Hold a neutral spine and keep your core engaged to stay stable.
Control the eccentric phase (returning to the start) to enhance muscle activation.
Pick a load that lets you perform the exercise correctly without strain.
Benefits
Isolates the Triceps: This machine specifically targets the triceps, allowing for focused muscle engagement.
Provides Controlled Resistance: Unlike free weights, the machine guides the movement, making it safer for beginners and rehabilitation.
Reduces Joint Stress: The fixed path of motion minimizes strain on the elbows and shoulders, making it a good alternative to free-weight exercises.
Enhances Strength and Muscle Growth: Builds triceps endurance, definition, and power, essential for pressing movements like the bench press.
Ideal for Progressive Overload: The adjustable weight stack makes it easy to increase resistance over time, ensuring continuous progress.
