Stand tall with your feet shoulder-width apart and your core engaged.Hold the plate at the center of your chest, with your elbows bent and tucked close to your sides.
- 4
Press the Plate Forward
Press your palms into the plate and slowly extend your arms forward while keeping it steady.Focus on contracting your chest as you press.
- 5
Pause and Squeeze
When you reach the end of the rep, hold for 1–2 seconds and tighten your chest muscles.
- 6
Return to Start
Bring the plate back to your chest slowly, and keep tension in your chest the whole time.
Form tips & common mistakes
Keep constant pressure on the weight plate so your chest stays engaged from start to finish.
Use a slow, controlled tempo to get the most muscle activation.
Brace your abs to stay stable and avoid over-arching your lower back.
Press the plate out to full arm extension, but do not lock your elbows.
Benefits
Because the Svend Press keeps constant tension on the pectoral muscles, it can help improve muscle definition.
You only need one weight plate, which makes this a practical choice for home or gym training.
The pressing action makes you actively recruit your chest muscles through the entire movement.
Compared with some traditional pressing exercises, the Svend Press puts minimal stress on the shoulder joints.
You can use this exercise as a warm-up, finisher, or as part of a superset for chest development.
