How to do it
- 1
Setup and Starting Position
- Get down on your knees on the floor, or use a mat if you want extra comfort.
- Set your hands under your chest and bring your thumbs and index fingers together to make a diamond shape.
- Tighten your core and keep your body in a straight line from your knees to your head.
- 2
Execution
- Lower your chest toward the floor while keeping your elbows tucked in near your torso.
- Descend until your chest is almost touching your hands.
- Drive back to the start by straightening your arms fully and keeping tension in your triceps.
- Perform 3 to 4 sets of 10 to 15 reps, based on your fitness level.
Form tips & common mistakes
Keep your core tight so your lower back does not arch or sag.
Use a steady, controlled tempo to increase muscle activation.
Keep your elbows from flaring outward; stay close to your sides to target the triceps more effectively.
Breathe correctly: inhale as you lower and exhale as you press up.
Shift your hand position slightly if your wrists feel uncomfortable.
Benefits
Builds Triceps Strength: The diamond hand position puts extra emphasis on the triceps, making it a strong choice for arm development.
Develops Chest Muscles: The triceps do most of the work, but the pectorals also contribute, supporting upper body strength.
Beginner-Friendly Modification: Staying on your knees lowers the challenge, which makes this a solid starting point before full push-ups.
Reduces Wrist and Shoulder Strain: The modified position reduces resistance, which can help people rebuild strength or train with less stress after injuries.
No Equipment Needed: You can do this bodyweight exercise anywhere, so it is an easy and effective training option.
