Push-up With Push-up Bars
Overview
How to do it
- 1
Position the Bars
Set the push-up bars on a firm, stable surface, about shoulder-width apart. Check that they are steady and cannot slide.
- 2
Grip the Bars
Take a strong neutral grip on the bars. Keep your wrists straight and stacked with your forearms.
- 3
Starting Position
Move into a high plank with your hands on the bars, elbows locked out, and your body forming one straight line from head to heels.
- 4
Lower Your Body
As you inhale, bend your elbows and lower your chest until it sits just below hand level. Keep your elbows at a 45-degree angle to your torso.
- 5
Push Back Up
Press forcefully through the bars as you exhale and return to the start.
- 6
Repeat
Complete 10–15 repetitions for 2–3 sets, and keep your form solid from start to finish.
Form tips & common mistakes
Brace your abs so your hips do not drop or rise.
Do not hurry. Use a smooth, controlled lowering and pressing phase.
Keep your elbows at a moderate angle, not flared out, to protect your shoulders.
Hold a straight line from your head to your heels.
Breathe in on the descent, then breathe out as you press up.
Benefits
Push-up bars let you bring your chest lower than your hands, which creates a bigger stretch and greater muscle activation.
The bars keep your wrists in a neutral position, which can reduce discomfort and lower injury risk.
They challenge your stabilizing muscles, which can improve balance and overall functional strength.
Push-up bars are useful for standard push-ups, incline push-ups, and more.
A deeper range of motion plus added stability makes your muscles work harder.
