Overview

Dynamic stretching uses controlled, active motion. You normally perform it before training to raise your heart rate and prepare your muscles. Start with slow reps, pause as needed, then repeat and ease a little farther each time to expand your range of motion. Doing dynamic stretches before a workout can improve circulation, get your muscles ready to move, and temporarily boost your range of motion.

How to do it

  1. 1

Shoulder stretches may ease muscle tension, pain, and tightness in the neck and shoulders. Adding shoulder-specific exercises and stretches to your overall workout plan can improve shoulder mobility and flexibility. These movements may also strengthen your shoulders, enhance shoulder function, and help prevent injury.
