Overview

Reverse Lat-Pulldown mainly works the upper back, with the latissimus dorsi, teres major, and rhomboids doing most of the work. It also recruits the biceps more than a standard lat pulldown. This variation adds a new challenge for your back muscles and can support better overall back development.

How to do it

  1. 1

    Set Up

Set the seat on the lat pulldown machine so your thighs are locked in under the leg pads. Take the bar with a reverse grip, palms facing you, and place your hands a little wider than shoulder width.

  2. 2

    Body Position

Sit tall with your chest lifted and your back straight. Plant your feet flat on the floor. Keep a secure grip on the bar.

  3. 3

    Movement

Begin with your arms straight overhead. Pull the bar down to your chest by driving your elbows down and back. As you lower the bar, actively squeeze your shoulder blades together. Return the bar to the start under control without allowing the weight stack to touch.

  4. 4

    Breathing

Breathe in as you extend your arms overhead. Breathe out as you pull the bar down.

Form tips & common mistakes

Keep your torso still; do not lean back too much.

Let your lats start the movement.
