Overview

The Decline Push-up is a push-up variation with your feet raised on a bench, box, or step. This shifts more load to the upper chest (clavicular portion of the pectorals) and shoulders. The steeper body angle also makes the movement harder than a standard push-up, while demanding more from the core and stabilizer muscles.

How to do it

  1. 1

Set Up Your Position:Place your feet on an elevated surface (bench, step, or sturdy platform).Position your hands shoulder-width apart on the floor.Keep your body in a straight line from head to heels.

  2. 2

Lower Your Body:Brace your core and lower your chest toward the floor with control.Keep your elbows at a 45-degree angle from your body.Move smoothly without allowing your hips to sag or rise.

  3. 3

Push Back Up:Drive through your palms and return to the starting position.Keep your core and glutes engaged for stability.Fully extend your arms at the top without locking the elbows.

  4. 4

Repetitions and Sets:Perform 3 to 4 sets of 10 to 15 reps, and adjust the challenge to match your fitness level.
