- 6
Start the movement with a standard push-up. Bend your elbows and lower your chest toward the bench.
- 7
Hold a straight body line and keep your push-up technique solid. Bring your chest close to the bench without making contact.
- 8
As you reach the landing phase, let go of the benches and try to land with your hands on the ground.
- 9
While you lower toward the floor, remove your hands from the bench and guide them toward the ground for a soft landing.
- 10
Land under control so you reduce sudden stress on your wrists and shoulders.
- 11
Once you finish the push-up on the ground, drive up explosively with as much force as possible.
- 12
Generate the upward drive with your chest, triceps, and shoulders.
- 13
Return your hands to the benches in the starting position.

Continue for the target number of repetitions.
Form tips & common mistakes
Make sure you can do standard push-ups with proper form before you try Drop Push-Ups.
Control your lowering phase to reduce impact and lower the chance of injury.
Push up with maximum speed during the push-up phase to get the most plyometric benefit.
Use dynamic stretches to prepare your wrists, shoulders, and core and help reduce strain risk.
If you are a beginner, begin with fewer reps or modified versions, such as dropping from a kneeling position.
Benefits
Drop push-ups are a plyometric exercise, so they use explosive actions that can raise your heart rate. Over time, this can improve cardiovascular endurance and support better heart health and stamina.
Plyometric drills such as drop push-ups emphasize explosive effort, which can improve speed, quickness, and power. Power matters in activities that need short bursts of strength, such as sprinting, jumping, and many sports. The explosive style of drop push-ups helps raise your power output.
Drop push-ups work several muscle groups at once, including the chest, shoulders, triceps, core, back, and legs. That makes them a broad full-body exercise that can help build strength and muscle definition.
You need core stability to keep proper form during Drop Push-Up. This supports the abdominal muscles, obliques, and lower back, and it can improve posture and overall core strength.
Doing drop push-ups repeatedly can build muscular endurance, helping you complete more reps over time. Better endurance can also support athletic performance and lower the risk of fatigue-related injuries.
Plyometric exercises like drop push-ups can help burn calories and reduce stored body fat. When paired with a proper diet, the mix of strength training and cardiovascular work can support a leaner physique.
