Chest Dips
Overview
How to do it
- 1
Position Yourself
Set your hands on the parallel bars and keep your arms straight. Lean your torso slightly forward. Lift your feet off the ground. Hold an upright position or a slight forward lean, based on what you want to emphasize.
- 2
Grip
Hold the bars tightly with your palms facing inward. Begin with your elbows slightly bent.
- 3
Leg Position
Bend your knees and keep your feet together for stability, or straighten your legs out to make the movement harder.
Form tips & common mistakes
Move through each repetition slowly and with control to get the most muscle engagement. Pay attention to the stretch at the bottom and the squeeze at the top.
Stay focused on the chest muscles working through the full motion, especially on the way down.
When you become stronger, add weight with a dip belt so you can keep progressing and building muscle.
Warm up your shoulders and chest before you do dips to help reduce the risk of injury.
Benefits
Chest dips work the lower part of the pectorals very well, supporting overall chest development and strength.
Dips also recruit the triceps, which can help improve arm strength and muscle tone.
Because Chest Dips use bodyweight, they build practical strength and improve pressing power for sports and everyday tasks.
Dips allow a deep range of motion that improves muscle stretch and contraction, which can support better muscle development.
As you stabilize your body, Chest Dips also engage the core muscles, helping improve overall stability and strength.
